Obituary for Bettie Jean Brewer Smallwood
Bettie Jean Brewer Smallwood, 83, died June 29, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2022, at Covenant Presbyterian Church with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at the New Sight Baptist Church Cemetery in Lincoln County, MS.
Mrs. Smallwood was born on February 26, 1939, in Brookhaven, the daughter of the late David and Betty Brewer. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Mississippi State University, Mrs. Smallwood earned both her Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Education. A dedicated teacher, she taught at both Magnolia and McClure Academy. She retired to home school her daughter, Susan.
She enjoyed many arts and crafts, especially quilting and gardening her plants. Mrs. Smallwood was a wonderful cook and cooked many delicious meals for her family and their friends.
Mrs. Smallwood loved the Lord and could quote the Bible inside and out. She attended Parkway Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Montana.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Paul Smallwood of Clinton; son, Keith Smallwood of Clinton; son, Kevin Smallwood of Clinton; and daughter, Susan Smallwood of Jackson; grandson, Chase Smallwood of Clinton. She is also survived by sisters, Carolyn Criswell of Houston, TX; Barbara Allen of Houston, TX and Charlotte Setliff of Houston, TX.
