Ben Tyler Jackson

Ben Tyler Jackson, 68, died Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the Chapel of the Resurrection at Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church with burial following in the Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Thursday. A prayer vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church.

Ben was born on November 1, 1952, in Kodiak, Alaska, the son of the late Cyril Culley Jackson and Bennye Eleanor Comfort Jackson. He lived in California, Georgia, and Tennessee before his family settled in Brandon, MS, where he and his brothers enjoyed driving on the dirt roads and finding any mischief they could to occupy their time. After graduation from Brandon High School, Ben joined the Mississippi National Guard. In 1975, he graduated from the Jackson Police Academy and joined the Jackson Police Department. Ben remained with JPD for 20 years, retiring in 1995 as Detective Sergeant in the Major Investigations Division. During this time, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Education and Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi.
After retirement, Ben was elected as Hinds County Constable and served in that position for 4 years. After his term as Constable, he joined Union Planters Bank (eventually Regions Bank) as Assistant Vice President in Security. In 2007, he left Regions and joined the Madison Police Department as an Investigator. He remained in that position for four years before joining BankPlus in 2012 as a Bank Secrecy Suspicious Activity Investigator and held this position until 2017 when he was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Deputy Director of Security.

Ben enjoyed his work at BankPlus so much that he would arrive to work an hour early every day. His coworkers describe him as someone who never met a stranger and always lent a helping hand to others.

Ben was a past chairman of the Jackson Chapter Society for Industrial Security, Metro Jackson Crime Stoppers, and the MS Banker’s Association Security Committee. One of his proudest accomplishments was serving as Commodore of the Jackson Yacht Club in 2005. He was also a communicant of Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church.

In his free time, Ben loved to be outdoors and especially enjoyed being on the water, whether it was sailing, fishing, or cruising the waters of Lake Caroline in the evenings with his wife, Beth. He loved adventure and never missed an opportunity to take a side road and explore a new area. He also loved anything with speed, particularly motorcycles, and spent much of his time in his garage, tinkering on various projects. He was an expert at finding something old or broken and making it like new again.

Ben was loved and will be missed greatly by his family and his friends. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. He will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, a devoted father, a beloved grandfather (Pops), and a beloved brother and uncle. He was a straight up, solid guy that was always there when needed and could find the humor in any situation.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Cyril Culley Jackson and Bennye Comfort Jackson and his brothers, Brian Edwards Jackson, Jack Rustin “Rusty” Jackson, and Cyril Cully Jackson, Jr.

Ben is survived by his wife, Beth Perry Jackson of Madison; daughter, Kelly Ann Scarberry and her husband, Steven of Pisgah; son, Christopher Tyler Jackson of Pisgah; stepson, Jacob Perry of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Matthew Glen and Emily Kayla Scarberry; sister, Toni Boyd of Brandon and sister, Jayne Allgeier of Brandon.

With Ben’s love for animals, the family asks, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite animal shelter and don’t forget to feed the birds.
