Barbara Jean Tate was born on August 28, 1953, in Madison County, Mississippi to the late Sena and Doris Henry.
Barbara attended Rosa Scott High School in Madison County where she received her education. She later attended Job Corps in Utica, MS. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at White Oak M.B. Church in Tougaloo, MS. She then attended Old Strangers Home M.B. Church under the direction of Rev. Joe A. Washington until she became very ill, and was placed in Chadwick Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Barbara Jean met and married Walter Tate Sr. in 1972 in Hinds County and to this union five children were born.
Barbara was well known to many people and was blessed with a tremendous skill of shooting pool. She always dressed with her starched jeans, cowboy boots, and shiny belt buckles just like her dad. She played and won many pool tournaments all over the Jackson, MS area.
Barbara was proceeded in death by her parents, Sena and Doris Henry, her husband Walter Tate, three brothers, four sisters, a daughter (Nikki), and two grandsons Antione and Bruce Jr.
Barbara Jean Tate leaves to cherish four brothers, eight sisters, six children; Anthony Henry Sr., Bruce Tate Sr., Roshay Tate, Walter Tate Jr., Walter Jamal Tate, and Shelia Tate, three grandsons Elvin Lindsey, Anthony Henry Jr., and Adrian Walker; four granddaughters, Keyona Stewart, Antionette Henry, Princess Macklin, and Ashanti Everett, fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
