Barbara “Dianne” Ross Horton died peacefully at home in Madison, MS early in the morning on May 4, 2023 after a prolonged illness.
A graveside service is scheduled for Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland, MS.
Sebrell Funeral Home of Ridgeland is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Dianne was born on November 12, 1956 and raised in Prentiss, MS. She was the youngest of three daughters. She graduated with the Class of 1974 from Prentiss High School and attended Mississippi State University earning a bachelor’s degree in business marketing.
She married the love of her life Robert G. “Bobby” Horton and they made a home in Jackson, MS where they raised their only son, Robert B. “Blake” Horton. Mrs. Horton was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Jackson and, most recently of First Baptist Church Madison.
She worked diligently for more than 30 years as a faithful state employee at various agencies before retiring from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
After retirement, she spent her time chasing her grandkids, riding her bike, and enjoying good food and fellowship with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Frances Ross of Prentiss, MS and her husband.
She is survived by her son, Robert “Blake” Horton (Katie) of Oxford, MS and their two sons, Sam (9) and Max (15 months); sister, Glenda Fowler of Ridgeland; sister, Marilyn (Larry) Spears of Prentiss; sister-in-law, Jan Gabriel of Madison; mother-in-law, DeLores Glazier of Ridgeland; nephew, Trint Spears of Prentiss; nephew, Donald Fowler (Amy) of Oxford, MS and daughter, Presley, and son, Waide; niece, Karen Fowler Akins (Kevin) of Madison, son Breckin, and daughter Bristol; nephew, Jason Gabriel (Amy) Blacksburg, VA and sons Jackson and John Parker, and daughter, Liese; and very close friend John Tillman of Tillatoba.
The family would like to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to Deven Vance.
