Obituary for Barbara Janis Dockery
Barbara Ferguson Dockery passed away in Ridgeland, MS on February 09, 2019. Barbara worked in the beauty business in Jackson, MS and Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her father, Malcolm Earl Ferguson, and mother, Bernice Johnson Ferguson. Barbara is survived by Cristopher McKay Dockery (son), JoLynne Trapani (Cris’ companion), McKay and Jack Dockery (grandchildren), Mike Ferguson (brother), Heidi Ferguson (sister-in-law), Carolyn Holligan (niece), Kamerin Holligan (great niece) Bonnie Ferguson (aunt), Evelyn Ferguson (aunt), and numerous cousins and second cousins. Tribute to Barbara: When I think of Barbara, I think of the color turquoise. She seemed to love every shade of this color and it blended in beautifully with her red hair and colorful lifestyle. She loved everything involving Native American culture: jewelry, customs, clothing, music. Her hairdressing skills were considered second to none as witnessed by Bernice’s always beautiful hair, and the way she could always blend Carolyn’s beautiful hair back into shape after she had neglected her mane. Willie Nelson was her favorite country music artist. Mike and I took Barbara and a friend of hers to see Freddy Fender in Vicksburg, MS many years ago, except we never saw Freddy. Seems he fled the building because he felt the crowd was not big enough to feed his ego. She loved the Southwest. In the early 70’s, Mike and I took a road trip out that way with Barbara, Bernice, and Cris, to attend Carl Everett’s wedding. It took us a few days to get to New Mexico and just twenty four hours to return home on our trip! Had Barbara been wealthy, she would have spread her worth unselfishly. Instead of material wealth, Barbara gave her family unconditional love and dedication. When the angels took Barbara to Heaven, I pictured a beautiful shade of turquoise sky as she entered into the arms of Jesus.
