Archie Fleet Evans ran to the arms of Jesus at 8:45 p.m. on December 8, 2024, following a battle with cancer. He was 85 years old.
Born in Crystal Springs, MS, on February 1, 1939, to Ruby Overby and Benjamin Evans, Archie graduated from Central High School in Jackson, MS. He worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service before retiring to enjoy his passions for motorcycles, antique cars, fishing, and reading.
A long-standing member and deacon at Trace Ridge Baptist Church in Ridgeland, MS, Archie’s love of and belief in Jesus Christ was demonstrated by his compassion for others. With a heart full of kindness, he consistently prioritized the needs of others over his own. He was also well-known for a making a dramatic exit from church on one of his many motorcycles, loudly revving the engine and waving to his church family as he left the parking lot.
Described as a “good man” by Wilma Kynerd, his partner of 19 years, Archie had five children —Steve Evans (deceased), Renee Hicks (deceased), Karen Forbes, D.D. Taylor and Rhonda Thomas. He is survived by his brother, Bennie Evans, and two half-sisters, Francis Fair and Joan Vinet.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made on Archie’s behalf to either the Children’s of Mississippi Hospital or Trace Ridge Baptist Church. Although Archie will be deeply missed, all those who love him can picture him riding a magnificent motorcycle in Heaven, still revving the engine and waving to his family and friends.
