Anne Loflin McDonald, 62, passed away peacefully in her home in Jackson, MS on November 20, 2023.
Anne is survived by: her daughters, Savannah McDonald Selvaggio (AJ) of Washington, DC, and Jaclyn Loflin McDonald of Nashville, TN; her mother, Jo Loflin, of Star, MS; her sisters, Vicki Loflin Johnson (Roger) of Longview, TX, and Lynn Loflin Brooks (Rick) of Meridian, MS. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins that she adored.
Anne was born on August 6, 1961 to Jo Nall Loflin and the late Jack Milton Loflin in Meadville, MS. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and explored many national parks, hiking trails, and camp grounds with her family growing up. She spent several summers at Lake Junaluska throughout her life where she made many wonderful memories with her family. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1979 where she was a cheerleader, lead in the school musical, and a proud member of the Dusty Club of Columbia. Afterwards she attended Millsaps College where she later graduated from in 1987. While at Millsaps she continued her cheerleading career and was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority where she added another layer of sisterhood with her two sisters, Vicki and Lynn. Anne graduated with a degree in Sociology – an interest that remained prominent throughout her life. She gave birth to her first daughter, Savannah, in 1992 in Albany, New York where she lived for several years before returning to her home in Jackson, MS. Shortly after returning to Jackson, Anne attended Millsaps College's Else School of Management and received her MBA in 1998. Shortly after graduating with her masters, She
celebrated another great accomplishment with the birth of her second daughter, Jaclyn. In addition to being a fully devoted mother to her daughters, Anne loved many things. She loved good wine, good food, good company, good comedy, and good people. She treasured traveling to spend time with those she loved, which included visiting her two daughters whenever she could as well as traveling with her mother and sisters. Anne loved spending her time with family and supporting them in all of the best ways, which often included a home cooked meal, a listening ear, and (if necessary) a stiff drink.
Although she never won the lottery, Anne racked up several miles on I-20 with her friends Laura Neill and Naomi Freeman exchanging stories, laughing excessively, purchasing lottery tickets, and making plans for their lavish winnings. Naomi and Laura were a pair of Anne's lifelong friends that brought her so much joy. There was not a sport that Anne did not watch, fully understand, and possess an opinion on
. After years of supporting her girls during their sports careers, she cultivated a love for following those sports. She was a steadfast Atlanta Braves fan, an unwavering New Orleans Saints supporter, a relentless Liverpool cheerleader, and a Lionel Messi groupie. Anne was a woman of countless talents such as cooking, singing, and thinking (as well as feeling) deeply. She was wise and witty. A fierce protector of those she loved to the very end. Those who knew and loved Anne will protect her memory with the same intense love that she showed to all she encountered. --
Anne’s Celebration of Life will be Saturday November 25, 2023 at Wesleyanna United Methodist Church in Star, MS with visitation beginning at 10am and a service to follow at 11am. In honor of Anne’s request to make sure that her celebration of life be a fun time, her daughters both ask that those in attendance dress colorfully instead of in black. Flowers can be sent to Sebrell Funeral Home. If you feel called to make a contribution in lieu of flowers, then please donate to the Mississippi Food Network.
