Obituary for Alphonse M. Killebrew
Specialist 4th Class Killebrew was born on April 16, 1952 in Abbeville, Louisiana and died on July 1,2022 in Jackson, Mississippi. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am July 13, 2022, at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland followed by burial at Harland Creek in Lexington with military honors. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.
He moved to Jackson in 1952 and was adopted by Samuel V. Killebrew. He attended Bradley Elementary School, Enochs Junior High School where he graduated in 1966. Specialist Killebrew was a member of the football team, basketball and track teams for three years at Enochs Junor High School. In the summer he worked as an automobile mechanic. In 1966, he entered Central High School in Jackson and was forced to drop out due to financial problems and was drafted into the United States Army on March 22, 1971. Specialist Killebrew completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and AAF at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he graduated on July 23, 1971. He then volunteered for Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia and went Fort Lee, Virginia for parachute packing and drop school. He was assigned on November 18, 1971 to the Ariel Equipment Support Detachment Battalion, 1st Calvary Division, Fort Hood, Texas where he proudly served with 423P. Specialist Killebrew completed his high school education by receiving a GED with the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Killebrew of Clinton; brother, Carl and wife, Joanne of Katy, TX; sister, Kathryn and her husband, Howard of Brandon; sister, Carla of Crystal Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded brother, Samuel Earl, sister, Betty Ann, Joyce Marie, father, Samuel Vernon and sister Hilda.
