Obituary for Alice Sturgon
Alice Sturgon of Puckett, MS age 87, passed away August 5, 2017. She was born November 22, 1929 in Salida to Gus and Katherine (Stamatelou) Argys. She had 4 siblings Johnny, Helen (Kostos), Ester (Connelly) and Louie.
She was married 61 years to the love of her life Thomas Eugene Sturgon. They had three children Charles Steven, Franklin Eugene and Cheryl Lyn.
When they were first married, they lived in MS and LA then moved back to Salida and called it home. In 1980 they moved to Puckett, MS. and even though living in Mississippi for 37 years, she still called Salida home.
Alice was involved with all the kid’s activities while they were growing up, especially in 4H where she was a leader of the Busy Bee’s 4H Club and volunteered to help at many 4H events. She loved being with family and friends and enjoyed hosting and cooking at events for everyone. During the Holiday’s the kitchen exploded with Holiday Cookies which she loved giving to family and friends. Up through the week that she passed, you would always find homemade Biscotti in her cookie jar.
She always had a huge garden and would make jelly and canned the vegetables. Never one to sit around, Alice loved to stay busy, she enjoyed bowling, sewing, and raising chinchillas with Gene.
She was very involved with the Greek Orthodox church in Jackson, MS. and was known for the many cookies she baked for the yearly Greek Festival and Holiday Greek cookie sale.
Alice was blessed with 5 grandchildren Gena, Steven, Jonathan, Thomas and Erynn. She loved spending time with them and cooking for them. Each one had a favorite food item from cinnamon rolls, to peach butter to biscotti. Alice made sure they always had their favorite.
