Obituary for Alice Bielski Sherrard
Alice Bielski Sherrard met the Lord in heaven on February 14, 2018, after a life of 96 years. Alice was born on December 24, 1921, in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, to Vera and Kashmir Bielski. After high school graduation Alice attended Ohio University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology. After college she joined the United States Marine Corps. Alice was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California, where she met her husband Ray Sherrard, Sr.,who also served as a Marine. After an honorable discharge Alice and Ray married in Yuma, Arizona, on June 17, 1946. They moved to West Monroe, Louisiana, where Ray’s family resided. Alice was the ultimate homemaker. Among her favorite interests were cooking and gardening. Alice served in many leadership positions at Broadmeadow United Methodist Church. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Henry and Kas Bielski, and her beloved husband, Ray Sherrard, Sr., to whom she was married for 69 years. Survivors include son Edwin Ray Sherrard, Jr., daughters Marsha Thompson (Gerald) and Nancy Roberts (Al), and grandchildren Mary Stewart Thompson and Davis Roberts. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Alice’s son, Edwin, had been her faithful caregiver for twelve years. There will be a private family celebration of Alice’s life on March 1, 2018, at Galloway United Methodist Church. We are thankful for all of the prayers and support of our friends and clergy. Memorials may be made to Galloway or to one’s charity of choice.
