Obituary for Sherry Hill Felder
Sherry Felder was born Janice Cheryl Hill on June 29,1950 to Gerald and Jan Hill in New Orleans, Louisiana. Sherry attended school in New Orleans and later graduated from Covington High School in Covington, Louisiana.She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Mississippi in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She received a Master of Science in Nursing in 1992 and a PhD in 2007, both from the University of Mississippi.Sherry was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Theta Tau in 1988.Professionally, Sherry was an RN. She was assistant professor at the University of Mississippi from 1993-2003 and from 2005-2010. In 2010, when she retired, she received a citation from the University of Mississippi which read: “for her assistance in developing curriculum for distance learning and planning of the Oxford program in nursing, for the example she set for students as a life time learner, and for leadership ofthe nursing alumni chapter, the university expresses its sincere appreciation and every good wish for the years ahead.”Sherry was a member of the United Methodist Church and served the church on the local, conference, and general conference level. She was chairperson of the conference personnel committee when the two Methodist Conferences in Mississippi merged and was an Upper Room trainer for the Companions in Christ Studies. She was an active member of Parkway Hills UMC in Madison, MS. “Gaga”, as she was known by her grandchildren, took advantage of every opportunity to spend time with them. Whether it be babysitting, family dinners, attending sporting events, or even trips to Disney World, she truly embraced their company. She was also an avid quilter with Bernina Sewing, Etc. acting as her second home. Those that worked there were akin to her “sisters”. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Jan Hill, and sister, Dee Dee Nettles.Sherry is survived by her husband, Bert, and their little dog, Sophie. Survivors also include: three children, Jay Clairain of Hudson, Wisconsin; Lindsay Clairain of San Diego, California; and Sara (Wade) Watts of Madison, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Everett and Chaney Watts; two stepsons, Charlie (Cindy) Felder and David (Amy) Felder; seven step grandchildren, Kristen (Matt) Pratt , Jaycie Felder, Ally Osterberg, Mandy Osterberg, Jake Osterberg, Camille Felder, and Reid Felder; four siblings, Steve (Paulette) Hill, Margie Ussery, Julie Hill, and Doug (Becky) Hill; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Parkway Hills United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. In place of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts are made to Parkway Hills United Methodist Church (1468 Highland Colony Pkwy; Madison, MS 39110), Leiomyosarcoma Foundation (nlmsf.org), or a charity of your choice.
