Obituary for Laburn DeWayne Russell
Laburn DeWayne Russell, 71, died Saturday, February 18, 2017 at home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Cemetery in Vicksburg. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8 pm Monday and 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Russell was born on October 10, 1945, in Oxford, MS; the son of the late Thaddeus Russell and Allie Barger. Reared in Vicksburg by Thaddeus and Patsy Russell, he graduated from H.V. Cooper High School where he pitched for the baseball team his senior year. Mr. Russell continued his education at Hinds Community College and LSU - New Orleans where he studied accounting. He worked as the comptroller for Southern Crop Insurance for many years prior to retirement. After retirement he continued his tax accounting work in private practice.
A musician, he enjoyed playing the guitar as well as gardening. Mr. Russell was an Aquarist having both an aquarium inside his home and a gold fish pond in his back yard. He also was an avid woodworker.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ted Russell.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Brandon; daughter, Kim Creel (Randy) of Atoka, TN; daughter, Lori Russell and fiance Jason Sartain of Brandon; grandchildren, Alex Fendley, Russ Fendley; Steven Creel and Gabby Sartain; brother, Glen Prewitt (Sharon) of Vicksburg; sister, Tricia Redditt (Chester) Brandon; sister, Gail Walker (Dennis) of Meadville; sister, Becky Bowers (Mike) of Madison; brothers, Ike Russell and John Russell as well as many nieces and nephews.
