Obituary for John O'Hara Baas
​John O’Hara Baas, 91, of Ridgeland, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016. John was born on January 29, 1925, the son of Charles Martin Baas and Mary Rush Baas. He and wife, Rachel, lifelong residents of Hazlehurst, MS, moved to The Orchard retirement home in Ridgeland in April 2014. ​John was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Baas Reed. He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart, Rachel Nesmith Baas; son, John Alan Baas and wife, Sandy; daughter, O’Hara Baas Croswell and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Alison Croswell Horner, Shelley Baas Neely, Lindsey Baas Clarke and Dylan Wade Baas; great-grandchildren, Jill O’Hara Horner, Benjamin Castle Horner and John Wyatt Neely; brother-in-law, Paul Wesley Reed and nephew, Rush Howell Reed. ​John chose to donate his body to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at The Orchard, 600 S. Pear Orchard Road, Ridgeland on Sunday, July 24, 2016, with visitation at 2 p.m. and a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hazlehurst United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 725, Hazlehurst, MS 39083.
